Leading captioning company promotes government regulations, responds to government agencies

GREENWOOD VILLAGE, CO -- Caption Colorado, America's News Service for Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing Viewers, supports the FCC and Section 508 by providing captioning services for all real-time, post-production and Internet audio and video presentations.

Helping local and national government agencies abide by government regulations, Caption Colorado has dubbed itself the solution provider to agencies facing Section 508 'accessibility' issues regarding the deaf with its state of the art real-time and post-production closed captioning and text generation capabilities.

According to Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, effective June 25, 2001, Federal departments or agencies utilizing Electronic and Information Technology (EIT) must ensure it is accessible to people with disabilities (unless it poses an undue burden to do so). Section 508 also requires that individuals with disabilities have access to and use of electronic information and data that is comparable to that provided to the public without disabilities.

To appease government agencies' need to satisfy the mandates, Caption Colorado provides real-time captioning to government agencies for video presentations, such as training sessions, with edited post-production text files for training libraries and distribution videos. They also have the ability to cover live webcasts and teleconferencing with the highest quality real-time text generation available in the industry.

Furthermore, in 1997, the government proposed an eight-year transition schedule for programming which would phase in closed captioning of all non-exempt new programming (roughly the top 30 markets) by 25% increments every two years. Initiated in 1998, the regulations require 100% by 2006. January 2002 marks the leap from 25% to 50% closed captioning coverage for station programming.

Colorado's offline-captioning Value product meets all FCC requirements for text demand on both Internet presentations (audio to text) and video-type programming. With Internet streaming growing popular, Caption Colorado has also developed Internet streaming video for teleconferencing and distance learning.

Providers of real-time, offline and Internet captioning services, Caption Colorado's clients include cable networks such as Starz-Encore, Discovery Networks and National Geographic Channel, and station groups ABC, NBC, CBS, COX, Gannett, Tribune and RealNetworks. Colorado-based Caption Colorado has earned its reputation as the nation's largest provider of real-time captioning services to local and national media markets, captioning for over 80 clients located in 40 markets nationwide. Their captioners boast an average 98.5% accuracy rating, and they use the preferred method of captioning by deaf and hard-of-hearing communities and the FCC.
