Unless a detailed work history is known, a brief resume is required. When you submit the application, you will be asked to write two sample broadcasts and submit the raw, unedited data files. If you are currently captioning, videotapes of your captioned broadcasts may be submitted. If your CAT software uses artificial intelligence to resolve conflicts, that feature must be turned off when you write the files. Please state the CAT system used to produce the files. You may be asked to submit a copy of your dictionary for evaluation or more files of news broadcasts in your locality. Submitted materials are reviewed on the basis of keystroke accuracy, conflicts, word boundary problems, overall flow and comprehensibility. The goal of captioning is to provide readable English translation. The goal is to be as verbatim as possible. Dropping is acceptable and desirable (within reason) if it will keep the translation clean.
